Golf Activities

Starmount Forest has a game for every skill level across all ages.

Starmount Forest sponsors a variety of golf activities ranging from membership-wide to specific programming for our members. In addition to those listed below, there are always “member-coordinated” groups that play on various days throughout the week.

  • Member Tournaments
    • The Starmount Forest golf staff coordinates 13 member tournaments during a typical season. The season is officially underway with the Opening Day Tournament. As the weather warms into spring, the Ladies Member-Member and the Men’s Spring Member-Member Tournaments are held.

The club’s granddaddy weekend comes in the second week of June each year when the Men’s Member-Guest Tournament is held, entertaining approximately 200 people over a three-day span. Later in June, the Ladies Member-Guest Tournament is held.

As the summer heats up, the Club Championships are held: Seniors, Juniors and the Men’s and Ladies Club Championships. In late August, the club hosts the annual Parent-Child Tournament. When the leaves begin to turn in October, the Men’s Fall Member-Member Tournament and the Closing Breakfast Tournament finish out the season.

  • Ladies Activities (SFLGA)
    • Female members of all ages participate in weekday morning and evening outings of various competitive levels under the umbrella of the Starmount Forest Ladies Golf Association (SFLGA). In addition, the pro shop holds “ladies only” clinics. There is a ladies “Wine & Nine” on Wednesday evenings during the season. This is a fun, pressure-free way for lady members to get to know each other and have a good time on the course. There is always an opportunity to have food and beverages after play. Starmount Forest is proud to be a licensed Operation 36® facility. We leverage the Op 36 On-Course Format and technology to make it fun for our golfers to improve their skills.

  • Mixed Couples
    • The pro shop coordinates mixed couples outings for husband-and-wife duos on Friday evenings throughout the summer months. Typically teeing off around 5:30 pm, participating couples will play nine holes before enjoying dinner at Bistro 59 or The Terrace.

  • Stag Night
    • Stag Night is quickly becoming a Starmount Forest tradition. Held one evening a month from April to October, the male members play nine holes of captain’s choice (A-B-C-D pairings), followed by a social gathering afterwards. The only requirements are to call in by 4 pm to alert the pro shop that you want to be included in the 5:30 pm shotgun.

  • Senior Interclub
    • Starmount Forest sponsors a senior interclub program. Our seniors play on Wednesday or Thursday mornings throughout the season against other teams from across the Triad area (Colonial, Forsyth, Old Town, etc.) The format is eight 2-man teams playing best ball against each other, with four teams representing each club. The two club teams are then invited by the host team to have lunch after play. It is a great opportunity to play some other private clubs in the area.

  • Junior Activities
    • Starmount Forest has two junior golf programs as well as a series of clinics for junior golfers.

The club participates in PGA Junior League. PGA Junior League is a team-based program for young golfers who may be new to the game and are not quite ready to play every shot or every hole. Participation takes place in April and May.

Junior Interclub is an individual competition where junior golfers compete in mini-tournaments at area clubs. This is for junior golfers who are ready to handle themselves on their own on the course and are ready for some friendly competition. There is pizza and refreshments provided after each match. Participation takes place in June and July. Our club competes against Alamance, Sedgefield and Greensboro Country Clubs among others.

The pro staff hosts junior clinics on Wednesday afternoons throughout the spring and summer. Each one hour session focuses on a different aspect of the game (e.g. bunker shots, putting, driving). The clinics are typically divided by age group with kids under age 11 going first and older kids following in the second hour.

Starmount Forest is proud to be a licensed Operation 36® facility. We leverage the Op 36 On-Course Format and technology to make it fun for our golfers to improve their skills.

  • Demo Days
    • Representatives from Callaway, Titleist, Ping and more hold “Demo Day” activities at Starmount Forest’s practice range at least twice per year. This gives members the opportunity to “test drive” the latest and greatest from the various vendors. The golf shop at Starmount Forest also has demo clubs and sets that can be tried or borrowed throughout the season.

  • Lessons
    • All three of the Golf Professionals at Starmount Forest are class “A” certified PGA professionals with years of teaching experience. Led by Head Golf Professional Savio Nazareth, they are able to set up a lesson or series of lessons to help with any part of your game. These lessons include playing lessons, video instruction, club fittings, and group lessons for families or a group of friends. The Golf Professional Staff works with all ages and abilities, so the next time your game needs some help, give them a call.
